v Queens Park Rangers Saturday 25th August 1993 ???, signed from non-League Hayes in 1987, had few peers to match his aerial power and strength on the ground. He was by some way Rangers' top scorer with 24 goals (in 1992/93), including two hat-tricks, and, not surprisingly, he also scooped the club's 'Player of the Year' award. Graham Taylor, the England manager, could not ignore such form and ??? marked his senior international debut with a goal in the 6-0 World Cup win over San Marino in February. He finished the season with four caps. |

v Liverpool Tuesday 6th May 1997 Liverpool bought the England star from Watford in June 1987 and he became an instant hit with the Anfield faithful, his goalscoring and his ability on the wing bringing him both FA Cup and Championship medals. Voted Player of the Year by his fellow professionals and named Player of the Year by the country's top football writers in 1987-88 and 1989-90 respectively.
