      NEWCASTLE UNITED    1968/69
      Fairs Cup

Newcastle qualified for their first stint in European competition, the Fairs Cup, by League position despite finishing only 10th in the First Division in 1967/68. The Fairs Cup had a strict one-club-per-city rule and with Liverpool and Chelsea qualifying for the competition it meant that Everton, Arsenal and Spurs - who all finished above Newcastle - could not take part in the competition.
