fixture at Newton Heath they immediately objected to the state of the home
pitch - it was little more than sand and mud. The match went ahead and
Newton Heath won 14-0 but the match was declared void and ordered to be
replayed. That time the Heathens only won 9-0!
It was not the best of seasons for Walsall. Financial

Bottom of the heap though were Crewe Alexandra who lost all 15 away League matches during the season.
It didn't take long for Woolwich Arsenal to fall foul of the footballing authorities. In only their second league season abuse of a referee saw their ground closed for five weeks forcing home matches to be played at New Brompton (Gillingham) and Leyton.
