Four new clubs in the Football League in 1950/51 - Scunthorpe and Shrewsbury in the north and Colchester and Gillingham in the south. The two new sides in each division played each other on the opening day of the season - and both matches ended 0-0.

Alec Herd and his son David were both in the Stockport County forward line for their match against Hartlepools United on May 5th 1951. David scored in the 2-0 victory.
