      * Peterborough United were found guilty of various financial irregularities (including offering illegal bonuses for a cup tie at Sunderland the previous season, which they had lost 1-7). Their punishment, which was announced in November 1967 when they were challenging for promotion, was demotion to the Fourth Division and so at the end of the season they had 19 points deducted.
