Leading League goalscorer:
Thierry Henry
 (Arsenal)
 27  goals

George Best, arguably the greatest talent to play in English football, died on November 25th 2005 aged 59.

In order to allow the season to end a week early to give more time for England to prepare for the World Cup finals, all the FA Cup quarter-finals were played in midweek rather than the traditional weekend. In one of those ties Liverpool won 7-0 at Birmingham City, the highest away score in the FA Cup quarter finals since Blackburn won by the same scoreline at Bootle in February 1890.

English and Spanish sides met an amazing 19 times in the various European competitions. The Spanish had the upper hand winning 8 to our 4 including the two most important - Barcelona beating Arsenal 2-1 in the Champions League final and Seville recording a 4-0 win over Middlesbrough in the UEFA final.

Spurs are beaten by West Ham - and food poisoning!
