      GM VAUXHALL CONFERENCE
1986/87

  Leading League goalscorer:
Kim Casey
(Kidderminster Harriers)
 38  goals

It was all change in the Conference with new sponsors (Vauxhall Motors) and a new relationship with the Football League. The champions of the Conference were to be automatically promoted to the League provided they met Football League standards. Scarborough were the first champions to be promoted with Lincoln City relegated from the League to the Conference. So is this the Conference becoming 'Division 5' of the Football League?

Two Conference sides reached the 3rd Round of the FA Cup with the plum tie going to Telford who draw Leeds United at home. Telford lost the match - switched to the Hawthorns - by the odd goal in three.
