A new name in the
Conference at the start of the 2007/08 season - Ebbsfleet United who had
previously been known at Gravesend & Northfleet. Later in the season
the club hit the headlines when they were taken over by a web-based
venture, MyFootballClub. Over 20,000 My FootballClub members paid £35
each to provide a takeover fund and as owners each person has an equal
vote on all club decision including player selection and transfers.
And the venture
proved very successful with Ebbsfleet defeating Torquay United in the FA
Trophy final at Wembley just 3 months after the takeover.
Droylsden,
Stafford Rangers and
Farsley Celtic were all relegated to the Conference North . With Halifax
Town expelled to the Unibond First Division North, Altrincham escaped
relegation from the Conference Premier Division. Amazingly, it was
the third season in a row that Altrincham had escaped relegation due to
the problems other clubs suffered with the rule-book.
Lewes
(champions) and Eastbourne Borough (play-offs) were promoted from the
Conference South into the Conference for 2008/09 while Kettering Town
(champions) and Barrow (play-offs) were promoted from the
Conference North.
