Arnold Birch, the Chesterfield goalkeeper, scored five League goals from the penalty spot during the season.

On December 29th 1923 Darlington's match against Chesterfield couldn't be played at the Feethams ground because of a frozen pitch. The match was moved to the adjoining cricket ground and 5675 watched Darlington gain a 2-1 victory.
