Leading
League goalscorer: George Goddard (Queens Park Rangers) 37 goals Plymouth's title success saw them lose the mantle of unluckiest team in the League. Their previous 8 finishing positions in Division 3 (South) were 2nd, 2nd, 2nd, 2nd, 2nd, 2nd, 3rd and 4th - but only the top club won promotion to the Second Division! Brentford won every one of their 21 home League fixtures (results) during the season. It didn't do them much good though as only one team was promoted and Brentford finished a distant second to Plymouth Argyle. Plymouth themselves only dropped three home points during the season. What a difference a week makes. Norwich City only played in one 0-0 draw in the 1929/30 season - then a week later beat Coventry 10-2 which is still their record League win. Just four days after Swindon had drawn with First Division high-fliers Manchester City in an FA Cup 4th Round tie they visited Maine Road for the replay - and lost 10-1. |
