The Second Division was an amazingly close-fought competition  in 1955/56 with half the clubs in the division being separated by just 4 points at the end of the season.  One of that group - Bristol Rovers - recorded one of their most memorable results. A 35.872 Eastville crowd saw them demolish Manchester United 4-0 in the Third Round of the FA Cup, the Busby Babes went on to become League champions at the end of the season.
