Lincoln City lost their FA Cup 3rd Round tie to famous non-league giantkillers Peterborough United - then playing in the Midland League. The sides drew 2-2 at London Road before Posh won 5-4 at Lincoln's Sincil Bank in the replay. Three days after Peterborough United had knocked the Lincoln first team out of the FA Cup they entertained the Lincoln City reserve side in the Midland League - and won that match 6-1.

The attendances for those matches were amazing - in the FA Cup 22,000 at London Road and 18, 216 at Sincil Bank with 9,707 at London Road for the Midland League match.

Sheffield United made the perfect start to the new season winning 4-0 at near neighbours Rotherham. Four months later Rotherham got their own back - they won 7-2 at Bramall Lane!
