Queens Park Rangers set a new record when drawing six League matches in a row with the same scoreline - 1-1. In all they recorded a dozen 1-1 League draws during the season (results). One of their defeats though was a particularly embarrassing one for them. In the FA Cup. they lost 6-1 at Hereford United - then in the Southern League - in a First Round tie.

Gillingham didn't have the best of League seasons but made the headlines in  the First Round of the FA Cup with a 10-1 thumping of non-leaguers Gorleston at the Priestfield Stadium. Ron Saunders - later of managerial fame - led the rout of the Eastern Counties League goals with 5 goals with Jim Fletcher (2), Ron Clark (2) and Wendell Morgan scoring the others.

Gillingham were also equal top scorers in the 2nd Round of the FA Cup with a convincing 6-1 home replay victory over Millwall. The Second Round headlines though were made the other club who scored a 6-1 victory - Hereford United. Then a Southern League side the non-leaguers beat QPR by that convincing scoreline.
