Darlington were knocked out of the FA Cup by two different clubs in 1999/2000. With Manchester United having withdrawn from the competition to enter the inaugural World Club championship in Brazil, a vacancy existed in the Third Round draw. Darlington, who had been beaten in the 2nd Round by Gillingham, were the 'Lucky Loser' who replaced United in the Third Round, where they lost to Aston Villa. FA Cup Results 1999/2000

A more traditional reason for a postponement - flu - was used by Rotherham United when they requested their match at Peterborough on Boxing Day 1999 be called off. The Football League turned down the request and the match went ahead - with Rotherham winning 5-0!
