Bury became the first club to have scored 1000 goals in each tier of the League game when they scored their first goal against Wrexham on Saturday August 27th. That was their 1000th goal in the fourth tier and since joining the League in 1894 they had previously scored 1,176 goals in the top flight, 2,396 in the second tier and 1,520 at the third level.

Wycombe Wanderers led Premiership Aston Villa 3-1 at half time in their Carling Cup Second Round tie - but eventually lost 3-8.

There was again a nail-biting last day of the season at the bottom with seven clubs fighting to avoid the second relegation spot to the Conference - Rushden were guaranteed a relegation place. It was Oxford United who were the unlucky side and so ended a 44-year League membership which had seen them play three seasons in the top flight and win the League Cup. Ironically Oxford had taken the League place of Accrington Stanley back in 1962 and now one of the clubs who replaced Oxford and Rushden was Conference champions Accrington Stanley!
