Note - When Walsall Town Swifts turned up for a Second Division fixture at Newton Heath on March 9th 1895 they immediately objected to the state of the home pitch - it was little more than sand and mud. The match went ahead and Newton Heath won 14-0 but the match was declared void and ordered to be replayed, on April 3rd 1895. That time the Heathens only won 9-0!
