Goals were a Christmas gift for Tranmere and Oldham fans in 1935. On Christmas Day Oldham defeated Tranmere 4-1 and a day later in the Boxing Day  return at Prenton Park Tranmere defeated Oldham by 13-4. It was both Tranmere's record League score and the highest aggregate score in League history. Bunny Bell scored 9 of Tranmere's goals that day, and missed a penalty.

On Saturday 1st February 1936 the record set in 1931/32 of 209 Football League goals scored in one day was equalled.

A year after winning 3-2 at Burton Town in an FA Cup tie York City entertained the Midland Leaguers in another First Round tie - but this time suffered an embarrassing 5-1 home defeat.
