Using the 'push and run' style of play developed by manager Arthur Rowe Spurs played some thoughtful and attractive football and a year after taking the Second Division title they won the League championship for the first time.

The English record transfer fee was broken twice during the season. In October 1950 the 'Bank of England' club Sunderland paid Aston Villa £30,000 for Trevor Ford and in March 1951 Sheffield Wednesday paid Notts County £34,500 for Jackie Sewell.

Swedish international
Hans Jeppson was in London on a business study course and signed for Charlton on amateur forms to keep his hand in. He scored 9 goals in his 11 League outings for Charlton including a hat-trick in a 5-2 victory over Arsenal at Highbury.
