Manchester United became the first English side to play in the European Cup and their first match on home soil saw them beat Anderlecht 10-0. It was going to be easy wasn't it! Ironically home soil for United in their first few home European matches was Manchester City's Maine Road ground.  City had floodlights but Old Trafford didn't! United didn't play their first home match under floodlights until later in the 1956/57 season - a League match against Bolton on March 25th 1957.
