  Leading League goalscorer:
Kevin Hector
 (Bradford Park Avenue)
 44  goals

On July 30th 1966 England win the World Cup, Geoff Hurst scoring a hat-trick in the 4-2 victory over West Germany at Wembley.

A strange coincidence at Chester on New Years Day 1966 when Aldershot were the visitors. Both full-backs were named Jones - and both ended up in hospital with broken legs! (Footballing injuries)

When Luton signed goalkeeper Tony Read from Peterborough an injury problem prevented him playing in goal so instead he turned out for the Hatters....as a forward! After playing 27 matches in the forward line for Luton  - he scored 12 times including a hat-trick against Notts County - he returned to his favoured position playing his last 6 matches of the season as goalkeeper.
