Leading League goalscorer: Steve Bould scored the
quickest-ever own goal in the top flight in the Sheffield Wednesday v
Arsenal fixture on Saturday February 17th 1990. The Arsenal defender put
one past his own goalkeeper John Lukic after just 15 seconds. Despite defeating Crystal Palace 9-0 at Anfield (8 different players scoring their goals), Liverpool scored more League goals away from home than at home in achieving their record-breaking 18th League title. Palace got a measure of revenge when they beat Liverpool 4-3 in an FA Cup semi-final to reach the final for the first time, where they lost to Manchester United. |
