Leading League goalscorer:
Shaun Goater
(Manchester City)
 28  goals

The Sheffield United v WBA league fixture on Saturday 16th March 2002 saw a unique abandonment.  Referee Eddie Wolstenholme was forced to end the match after 82 minutes when the home side were reduced to having just 6 players on the pitch.
'The 'Battle of Bramall Lane'

Manchester and Stockport are only a short distance apart on a map but in footballing terms the difference was enormous in the 2001/02 season. Manchester City finished top of the First Division scoring a century of goals. Stockport County finished bottom and conceded a century of goals. Top Division 1 attendance was City v Portsmouth (34,657) and lowest County v Watford (4,086). Top average League attendance was City at 33,059 and lowest, yes you've guessed it, Stockport County at 6,244. But hey, George Best once played for Stockport, he never played for City!

Mind you, having said all the above Manchester City didn't beat Stockport in 2001/02. In fact City's only defeat in their last 15 League matches of the season was against County!

Football used to be a Saturday afternoon game. Seemingly no more. Of WBA's 46 League matches only 19 were played on a Saturday - they had a run of 8 League matches without playing one on a Saturday.
