Millwall became the first club from outside the top flight since the Premier League started in 1992 to reach an FA Cup final. The Londoners lost their first FA Cup final appearance but qualified for Europe for the first time.

Wimbledon upped sticks and moved from South London to Milton Keynes, playing their first match at the National Hockey Stadium on Saturday September 27th 2003, drawing 2-2 with Burnley. At the start of the 2004/05 season they changed their name to
Milton Keynes Dons.
