Rotherham Town did not seek re-election to the Football League at the end of the 1895/96 season. In the years before the First World War they were back in the Midland League along with their great local rivals Rotherham County (they occupied the top two places in 1911/12). Immediately after the Great War Rotherham County were elected into the Football League and Rotherham Town continued in the Midland League, but their fortunes declined. At the end of the 1924/25 season (1924/25 Midland League table) Rotherham Town amalgamated with Rotherham County to form Rotherham United who continued in the League to the present day (Rotherham United record).
