* Walsall players had refused to take to the pitch against Newcastle United on Saturday December 29th 1894 because the club weren't paying their wages. The match kicked off late and in the 78th minute had to be abandoned. The result was allowed to stand (full story - abandoned matches)

**When Walsall Town Swifts turned up for a Second Division fixture at Newton Heath (now Manchester United) on March 9th 1895 they immediately objected to the state of the home pitch - it was little more than sand and mud. The match went ahead and Newton Heath won 14-0 but the match was declared void and ordered to be replayed, on April 3rd 1895. That time the Heathens only won 9-0! (full story)
