The Aston Villa v Liverpool fixture was the last match of the season and the Championship decider with the match kicking-off with the clubs equal on points. Villa ran out comfortable 5-0 winners and so took the title. The fans were happy about that but not about the hike in admission prices for the match. The 41,000 spectators paid gate receipts of £825 - those were the days!
