Bobby Parker

 36  goals

The Middlesbrough v Oldham League fixture on April 3rd 1915 was abandoned when Oldham's Billy Cook refused the leave the field after being sent off (full story).

Continuing with League football while a World War was being fought on the continent was not universally popular. Historian AF Pollard wrote in The Times: 'Every club that employs a professional footballer is bribing a much-needed recruit from enlistment and every spectator who pays his gate money is contributing so much towards a German victory.'

At the end of the season Chelsea and Spurs filled the Division 1 relegation positions with Derby County and Preston due to replace them with promotion from Division 2. However the 1915/16 season was cancelled because of the First World War and prior to the start of the next League season - 1919/20 - the First Division was extended by two clubs. One of those places went to Chelsea (without a vote) who therefore retained their place in the top flight with the other place going to a vote. Voting -

Did You Know.....
Manchester United once thought that selling replica shirts of those used in their first European Cup final victory, against Benfica in 1968, would make them some money. So they started selling the red shirts - but withdrew them from sale when someone reminded them that United played in blue in that final!
