Four new clubs in the Football League in 1950/51 - Colchester and Gillingham in the south and Scunthorpe and Shrewsbury in the north. The two new sides in each division played each other on the opening day of the season - and both matches ended 0-0.

There was a controversial abandonment at Newport County on Good Friday when the ref called off the match in the 74th with the home side 5-1 ahead against visiting Norwich. He had to escape the ground in disguise. Read more about the match in

Swindon took a 2-0 lead at Southend on February 24th 1951 - and then lost 8-2!
