Tragic scenes at York City's Bootham Crescent ground on May 5th 1969 when referee Roy Harper collapsed on the pitch shortly after kick off  in York's last League match of the season, against Halifax Town. He died of a heart attack. One of the other officials took over and the match was played to completion, amazingly!

Southend United went on a goal-spree in the FA Cup, scoring 19 goals in two matches against non-leaguers. In the First Round they beat King's Lynn 9-0 and in the Second Brentwood were beaten 10-1, both matches being played at Roots Hall. Against King's Lynn both Gary Moore and Billy Best scored 3 goals apiece while against Brentwood Moore hit 4 goals and Best scored 5.
