      DIVISION 4    1987/88

Leading League goalscorer:
Steve Bull
 (Wolves)
 34  goals

Scarborough could have hardly hoped for more prestigious opponents to make their League debut against than Wolves but the match was spoiled by crowd trouble caused by the visiting fans. The match - played on Saturday August 15th 1987 - ended in a 2-2 draw.

For Newport County is was a case of 60 and out. After 60 seasons of League football the Welsh club became the second side to be relegated to the Conference. In the programme notes they hoped that they would soon be back in the Football League but in reality they didn't survive their first season in the Conference, being expelled for financial problems and then they went bust. In future years a club of the same name was reformed.
