      PREMIER LEAGUE    2019/20

Leading League goalscorer:
Jamie Vardie
(Leicester City)
23 goals

The Premier League season was suspended for over 3 months from March due  the coronavirus pandemic. Unlike Leagues 1 and 2 which were later abandoned the Premier League season was resumed in June and played to a finish although matches were played behind closed doors. .

The season was dominated by Liverpool who finished as Premier League champions for the first time and also became World Club champions.

Leicester's 9-0 win at Southampton in October equaled the record Premier League winning margin and set a new record for a top-flight away victory.

English sides dominated the Euro club competitions in 2018/19 providing all 4 finalists but this season things were different with only Manchester United getting as far as the final 4 - in the Europa League.

The Premier League season was suspended for over 3 months due to the tragedy of the coronavirus pandemic. The King Power Stadium hosted the last match before lockdown - between Leicester and Aston Villa on Monday March 9th - with the fixtures resuming on Wednesday June 17th. The full Premier League programme was completed and fixtures were played at the relevant home ground although after the resumption of play all matches were played behind closed doors.

Did You Know.....
Manchester United once thought that selling replica shirts of those used in their first European Cup final victory, against Benfica in 1968, would make them some money. So they started selling the red shirts - but withdrew them from sale when someone reminded them that United played in blue in that final!
