      CHAMPIONSHIP    2006/07

Leading League goalscorer:
Jamie Cureton
 (Colchester United)
 23  goals

Some 33 years after playing Pele and his Santos side at Home Park (Argyle v Santos)  Plymouth Argyle had another taste of the big-time with a pre-season friendly against Real Madrid played in Austria. Real Madrid put out a strong side for what was Fabio Capello's first match in charge but a penalty for the Spaniards proved to be the only goal of the match.

With one League match of the left Leeds United went into administration and suffered their 10-point penalty when already doomed to relegation. So, just 6 years after playing a Champions League semi-final against Valencia, Leeds are to play in the third tier of the League for the first time in their history, showing what poor financial administration can do to a club.

A 100-year curse ends at St Andrew's and then Birmingham City win the European Cup, League championship, FA Cup...
