After finishing bottom of the League in 1989/90 Colchester were relegated to the Vauxhall Conference, being replaced by Conference champions Darlington. Colchester spent two seasons in the Conference and after finishing as champions in 1991/92 were promoted back into the Football League (1991/92 Conference table).

* The 2019/20 season ended early because of the coronavirus pandemic with the last League 2 match - apart from the play-offs - being played on Tuesday March 10th.
